Bluegrass Budokai has been granted the right to lead study groups in the art of Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido by Roger Wehrhahn Shihan of the North American San Shin Kai. Mitsuzuka Takeshi Sensei, our Iaido teachers teacher began training in Iaido on March 1st, 1955 some 50 years ago.

Iaido is the solo practice of drawing and cutting using an iaito (Japanese practice sword) and then returning it to the saya (scabbard). Iaido is a very disciplined art and requires great concentration and alertness while remaining calm and relaxed.

In class, you will learn the basics of drawing, cutting, and returing the iaito.

Study group classes are lead by:

  • Scott Bray
  • Donnie Gibbs
  • Craig Caudill

New students are always welcome. Every new student will at least need a bokken to begin class. If you don't have one, one can be provided for the initial classes.
